Staff Spotlight: Barbara Shifflett, Event Planner

When evaluating our service and performance at events, there is one common praise we hear over and over: the guidance and support of Harvest Moon’s Event Planning team. With great fortune we have added 2 new event planners this past year and leading the team Barbara Shifflett is making every effort to lend her talents and time to getting them acclimated to HMC’s signature style.

With her years of experience in the restaurant and event planning industry, Barbara Shifflett has guided hundreds of brides in planning a ‘uniquely you’ wedding. Having stylized the decor and cuisine of local hip and happening restaurants Mono Loco, Rapture, Station, and Ivy Inn, Barbara thrives on spinning many plates with graceful ease. She is a seasoned Event Planner with an extensive successful track record of designing high profile events with a keen eye for artistic flair, creative use of space, impeccable service quality and seamless execution of a broad scope of events. Barbara has also donated her time and expertise to a number of non-profits including Live Arts, Tour de Trumpe, VA Blood Drives, Katrina Relief, VA Film Festival, and Aids Awareness.

We sat down with our Event Planning Guru to get her words of wisdom on getting the most out of planning your big day:

Know your venue and its capabilities. You might not get the venue you want, you might get the venue you need.

Make your menu an intimate reflection of yourselves as a bridal couple.

Keeping your budget in mind, spend on things that make a difference, like lighting.

Bring joy to the table in planning. It’s easy to get frustrated with vendors. There will be turns in the road that don’t seem like what you want. Don’t let these kinks take your focus away from the joy of the planning process.

Make the planning process an ongoing expression of the celebration of of the bridal couple. Your wedding day is about the joy and love of celebrating this special moment for years to come.

Don’t get too attached to any particular idea in the planning process, what is meant to be will be. Try to embrace that everything is happening for a reason.
